Unless you know something about photography, this photo of six-year old 'Black Star', who was only about eight feet away, is probably the best image you'll get of a captive wolf, no matter how many megapixels or gigabytes of memory your latest digital camera has, or what software exposure program you've got loaded into it.
This photo was the first one I took during our visit of January 2008, having forgotten in the excitement to set my camera properly, and I was lucky to even get his face in focus. The woman standing next to me with a brand new Nikon D80 (I wish I could afford one!) took about forty really sharp, well-lit photos of the fence before she gave up, having captured not a single image of a wolf. The fact is that photographing captive animals through a double chain-link fence isn't easy. In this photo you can clearly see both the inner and outer fences. More megapixels or gigabytes simply won't help. |

Apparently I'm not the only one who thinks my photos are presentable, and I've been asked to sell prints, about two dozen sold to date. I also discovered that two technicians in my local print shop were copying some for themselves.
The partial photo of 'Kazan' here (about one-sixth of the original), when he was about thirty feet from the camera, shows what I'm trying to achieve in terms of quality and resolution and shows the detail available in the prints. If you would like to purchase prints, I'll be happy to supply them. Since I don't yet have a proper business setup, I'll happily accept checks or money orders by mail. All the images here are suitable for sizes up to 8x10, and some will be selected later for 11x17.
