Maj
ALAN
NEEDHAM
Officer Commanding REME Workshops |
What happened to some of the Old Pals who served with us? Fortunately some of those who we remember from 47 Regt. Royal Artillery and the REME Workshops, stationed in Napier Barracks, 1957 - 1966 (or thereabouts) have found us, and we present their stories here. |
Maj Needham took over from a Maj Morris in 1959, and retired from the Army in 1978 with the rank of Brigadier.
He now lives with his wife Audrey in a Hollywood dream
of a cottage deep in the countryside near Pangbourne, Berkshire.
Their 300-hundred year old home is three old estate worker's cottages knocked together and is a
minefield of different level floors, genuine exposed oak beams and is full
to the brim with genuine period charm. I suspect that everyday computer use
has passed them by - he was amazed at the amount of information that I had
available from the internet including a picture of their home from the air
taken from Google Earth. (try 51'28'09.80N by 1'09'14.92W - the south most
house).
In their eighties and both spry and alert, they are the epitome of what a
retired couple of quality should be. He is a magistrate and the local church
warden and she is on the Board of Visitors for a local remand home and
involved in charities and good causes galore.
