What happened to some of the Old Pals who served with us? Fortunately some of those who we remember from 47 Regt. Royal Artillery and the REME Workshops, stationed in Napier Barracks, 1957 - 1966 (or thereabouts) have found us, and we present their stories here. |

Hi.
I am the daughter of Tony Heathcote (he was in R.E.M.E). Dad left the Army in the late 1970's and began work as the European Sales Manager of an American company which produced semi conductors. He lost my mother, Joyce, in 1992 but in 1994 Dad took a trip to the US to see some of the friends he had made over there and met Lyn. They married in 1995 and he settled in California and became a grandfather to my son and my brother's son but sadly only met Thomas (my son) before he suffered a heart attack and died on November 3rd 2002.
I have vivid memories of Napier Barracks (I was 7 when we moved to Germany) and the Sergeants Mess in Arborfield and Dad had an endless supply of stories about army life that kept my brother and I entertained on family camping holidays! I hope you don't mind me contacting you but it was so nice to see his name on your site!
Regards,
Maria Shortland
