26th U.S. Missile Detachment |
What happened to some of the Old Pals who served with us? Fortunately some of those we remember from 47 Regt. Royal Artillery and the REME Workshops, stationed in Napier Barracks, Dortmund about 1957 - 1966 (or thereabouts) have found us, and their stories are presented here. |
John, I was one of the Americans attached to the 47th GW Regiment. I was there in 1959 and 1960. My commander was Captain Harold Godwin. I was the one and only signal-trained person in the American 26th Missile Detachment. Primarily, I was a bookkeeper for classified documents and occasional decipherer of coded messages from our headquarters in Heidelberg. I still think about returning the Gasthaus we frequented so often. It was run by Gisela and Karl-Heinz Schoerrer, but I don't remember the name and certainly don't remember the address. Do you have any information that might help me locate or establish communication with it? If you have any question about the American experience there during those days, I would be glad to try to help. Gary R Hall Everett, WA USA Allgau@msn.com or Roosia@aol.com
