There weren't many motorcycles in 47 Wksps; In the early days one of the National Servicemen, Pvt Frederick, the Workshop Carpenter (originally a farmer) from Winchester, bought Len Cartwright's 500cc BSA Gold Star with a Swallow sidecar. Geoff Moxon had a 300cc 2-cycle (sorry, 2-stroke) Horex twin and then a 650cc Triumph Thunderbird. Bill Watkins, shown here, bought a (1953?) 500cc BMW.
