Sgt Maddocks & Bdr Hargreaves, I believe his name was, and myself, while on a NATO scheme went looking for 2 prisoners who had escaped. This happened near Frankfurt I believe. What had happened was two gunners were arrested and put in the back of a Matador for safe keeping but got out of the front door and went on the run.

Sgt Maddocks, Bdr Hargreaves and myself went looking for them in a Austin Champ at about 1900 hrs. We returned to camp about 0200 hrs, having not found them, when we bumped into WO Jack Flint who asked where we had been, and the battery captain had been looking for us. Sgt Maddocks said its all right Jack and went off to bed. Bdr Hargreaves said we have been every where looking for them when Jack Flint said you knew at 19.30 they had been captured, then he turned to me and asked what had happened and I said I had nothing to say as I was in enough trouble as it was, as I had just been released from the guardroom.

We didn't hear another word about it.
