With regards to the Karting I remember one time when the races were held on the airfield, I had only just bought a Norton motorcycle so this was definitely in 1961, the track was laid out with straw bails, I was asked to be the pacemaker at the start of each race doing one circuit and then pulling off, there was a bit of argy bargy at first because I was too fast for some and not fast enough for the rest, if my fading memory serves the larger the kart engine was the further back in the line up you started, it took about three goes to get the speed just right, I remember some irate Karter having a go at me for not getting it right first time however as it was the first time that I had seen kart I thought this a bit unfair, and I did not get the promised fuel vouchers.
