Almost all of the private houses (crofts) in the islands have thatched rooves (colonial=roofs), but the businesses seemed to have tiles. This building is the local Post Office nearest to the camp, and as far as I can recall it was the only Post Office on Benbecula. Judging by its appearance, service to HM Postal Service was not the owner's only source of income. The car is a 1956 Standard Vanguard, which I heard from one of the local people was also used as a private taxi, much to the annoyance of McBrain's Bus and Taxi service, who thought they had the undeniable right to a taxi monopoly on the islands.
