Your map (of Napier Barracks) refreshed my memory on a number of points and allowed me to remember some areas more clearly.
For example the old
firing bays on the way up to the pond where Ken Macklin and I tried to launch the model cabin cruiser that we had built during the
spring and early summer of 1959.
When we first discovered the pond in February it looked ideal for model boating. We worked
industriously for four months, took our creation for a cruise in June only to find the pond fringed with weed. Undaunted we set the
thing off - it went about two feet before stalling. We recovered it but not before the motor had become very hot - we didn't try again.
