Just ambled to your site. I was in Napier Barracks, Dortmund about
1970 as a member of a 5 Field Workshop advanced party which eventually
ended up in Soest.
I remember a fellow REME bod Tug Wilson (I know they are all call Tug)
attached to the RA - however, this guy won a competition in kicking
an American football and went to the USA for a short time to see if
he was any good. Came back after a few weeks. He was also a good footballer.
There was also a John someone who was the ASM. (my memory is going in my old age!!!).
Just thought you may remember them.

Hello
I have been reading your website and trying to piece together
my memories of the time.
I was in the U.S. Army in Germany in 1960-63.
As I remember it, we provided "special weapons" support to
two British Corporal Regiments in Dortmund.
This must have included yours.
There were not that many!
I remember running convoys north to Dortmund.
The warhead storage area was adjacent to an airstrip.
The British security forces used dogs on long 15-20
meter leashes. We would stay overnight and convoy back the next day.
Some nights we were there you had bingo night.
One time the Americans won a large
number of the bingo games and there was much grumbling.
Does any of this sound familiar?

Sir -- while browsing using key words Corporal Missile -- I came upon your web pages:
http://webusers.warwick.net/~u1012902/oldpals/reme/-
I was in the 1st Missile Bn 38th Arty, US, in Babenhausen Germany, 1961 - 1962
We came to your range to fire four missiles during that period
Beautiful country, daylight all night, warm-beer, 3 out of 4 shots were good
Enjoy your web site -- Regards - Lars Hagen, Virginia, USA
Thanks to Brig (Ret'd) Alan Needham and Maj (Ret'd) Mike Powell we now have a complete list of names for the group photo.
John
My name is Len Baker
I got your website from John Bosher.
I was a Sgt Vehicle Mech And looked after the ground handling vehicles in 3 Bty.
Lou Ramsbottom and I met at Arborfield, we did the course together, went to
Crookham and then to Dortmund. I suppose you could say we were among the
Founder members of 47 GW Regt REME workshops. Brian Harris was the Sparky.
I have spoken to Lou and John recently.
I left Dortmund in 1960, you may remember me.
I have a few photos of the early days with 47, are they of interest to you.?
As I type this a few names come back to me,after all it is 45 years ago.
Well John I will close this now,I am now living in Somerset . I retired in 1995
after doing 24 years in the Army and having a garage for 20 years.
I hope this finds you, I am a beginner at computing as I have only recently bought
this box of tricks.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes
Len Baker.
