Last Winter visit to our local wolf pack.

The temperature rose twenty degrees in the last three days and melted all the snow, leaving everything muddy and soggy underfoot. The wolves were a bit lethargic, probably because of the chilly damp air. Keysha decided to spend a few minutes chewing on a vine.
Not how one likes to be greeted, but this is a typical playful puppy pose.
River is only ten months old, and tried to get the pack interested in a chasing game, however the adults couldn't be bothered today.
Autumn is an arctic wolf, looks good in his full winter coat.

When you've got to go . . .

I think wolves are magnificent creatures and I like to photograph them going about their routine daily activities whenever the opportunity arises. I have to admit that one of the reasons is to help to dispel some of their ill-deserved reputations and the fallacious myths surrounding them, however I realise that their dining-room etiquette, from a civilised human point of view, is not one of their more socially redeeming features.
This is just to warn you that the photos below might not appeal to the tastes of those of you who consider yourselves to be among the more sensitive and refined.
Just remember though, that we all have to eat . . . .

Dinner is served . .
Today's a-la-carte offering is some fresh roadkill, compliments of a Mack truck on its way from Detroit.
The Alpha male in this pack simply wasn't hungry today, so all the other pack members had an equal share. Notice all their tails are down, and there are absolutely no signs of dominance or aggression.

Even though this black wolf, Midnight, is very old and has arthritis he is still the leader of his pack, and will not tolerate anybody else eating until he's had his fill. His mate, Princess Jo-Jo, tries to creep up on his blind side but rarely gets far.

After Midnight has had enough he lets Jo-Jo get her favorite piece of sirloin, which she typically 'wolfs' down without bothering to chew it.

So, how did you spend your day?
